“Future Sturgis” began in the spring of 2008, and has been moving forward for the betterment and advancement of the community. SEDC hosted the program called “Creating a Value Added Community, inviting key organizations from within the greater Sturgis area to join together. After several months of working through the process 5 key areas were identified. Collaboration and communication are key to propelling the Key City of the Black Hills into a thriving community for all who live, visit, or anticipate relocation.
The Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce is actively engaged in all groups through the Board of Directors and Executive Director. The partnership, which has grown between the City of Sturgis, SEDC, and the Chamber, has provided an example and momentum that is driving the effort.
The 5 areas of work are:
- Beautification
- Bridging the Social and Economic Gap
- Tourism
- Industrial Development
- Retail Development
